Gluten-free at Pelican Hill!
09.23.11
Considering how it seems like food allergies are so prevalent, we’re always on the lookout for menus that cater to special diets.
So we just found out that Chef Luca Cesarini at Andrea at Pelican Hill Resort in Newport Beach has introduced a new gluten-free menu. The dishes include pastas made from flour alternatives, such as corn, chick peas, rice, soy and flax-seed bases. The items available at lunch Wednesday through Sunday and at dinner daily.
Gluten-free options include potato gnocchi, with butternut squash and wild mushrooms; rigatoni with roasted eggplant, tomato, basil and pine nuts; saffron spaghetti with seafood guazzetto; codfish fagottini, and heirloom tomato coulis; or gramigna, pork sausage ragout and olives. Also choose from pipette, pancetta, English peas, Mascarapone sauce; and beetroot risotto with gorgonzola fondue.
Open for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday; 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday; and for dinner 6 to 10 p.m. daily.

Wear to Where: Denim Goes Pop!
09.21.11
The bright-colored denim trend is far from over! This fall there’s more fabulousness than your dark blues and smart designers are jumping on the bandwagon as shoppers continue to seek out denim that is new and different.
If you haven’t gotten yourself a pair yet, now is the time. Colored denim is a fun way to brighten up a gray day as well as add a playful edge to your everyday wardrobe. This fall, stick with jewel tones like fuchsia, cobalt, emerald green and aubergine or get crazy and indulge in a leopard printed pair.
Styling tips on how to pull off the perfect colorful look…
⇒ Wear with a neutral colored top to help balance the bright color out. For example, white, black, or grey can work with any color. Even a navy blue could work with red, yellow, orange, etc.
⇒ However, don't feel like you need to be limited to neutral colors. Color-blocking has been a big trend as well, so something like a bright orange or yellow tee on top? Go for it!
⇒ Something else that works? Prints! Striped, floral, polka-dots, they all "go". When doing prints, you can think of the colored denim as a neutral piece. Also, taking a color out of print that matches the colored denim can really pull the whole outfit together.
⇒ I suggest sticking with skinny denim. Anything wide leg or baggy or even boot cut is too reminiscent of the '90s. Keep the look clean.
⇒ Avoid doing all one color. Yes, you will "match", but looking like a crayon isn't a great look. If you insist on going head to toe in pieces in the same color family, make sure they are in different hues. For example, it is possible to pull off fuchsia jeans with a pale pink top. Make sure there is some sort of contrast between the denim and the top to break it up.
Denim will never go out of style…it will only continue to reinvent itself and this trend is not only fun but will surely be around for at least a few more seasons. To find out what to wear and where to buy head over to my website and see more photos and styling tips on how denim goes POP.
